One quick question

Was Northgate Timber a business expense?

Hi Chris, I’ve filed the Corporation Tax return (CT600) you approved.

Your next filing is a confirmation statement at the end of June. I’ll ask for your approval before filing.

Livy works directly across

  • Your bank
  • Your inbox
  • HM HMRC
  • Companies House

The whole accountancy service. Not a set of tools.

Move beyond DIY software and the spreadsheet shuffle of a legacy high street accountant. Livy keeps your books current, handles the accounting decisions and files with your approval.

Livy takes responsibility for the work.

You provide accurate information and approve each filing. We prepare the accounts and returns, explain what needs your attention and submit on your behalf. Your legal duties as a director or taxpayer remain; we are accountable for the work we agree to do.

Your transactions, reconciled

Livy matches money moving through your bank to receipts, invoices or an explanation. Your books stay current instead of falling eleven months behind.

Paperwork, found

Receipts and invoices are gathered from your inbox and matched automatically. No more Sunday-night folder hunts.

Filed on time

On track

Accounts and returns are prepared for your approval, then filed with HMRC and Companies House.

Answers about your business

Ask about tax, a payment or what you can afford. Livy knows the whole picture, so you get an answer specific to your business.

Reliefs and allowances, actively checked.

We look for every relief and allowance you’re entitled to and apply what fits your business.

Stop wondering what you’ve got wrong.

No guessing which box a payment goes in.

Livy categorises and reconciles your transactions. If something needs context, Livy asks what the payment was for. Choosing the accounting code is Livy’s job.

Books you can explain. Without the digging.

The receipts, the calculations, the reason behind an entry: Livy keeps them together. If HMRC asks questions, Livy can trace a figure back to the supporting records. You don’t have to reconstruct a year of transactions.

No lying awake wondering if you’ve got it wrong.

A deadline getting closer. Rules that don’t give you a straight answer. That sinking feeling that something’s been missed. Livy keeps the books current, works through the rules and prepares your filings, so you’re not left carrying the uncertainty.

Know what’s yours to spend.

Your bank balance, tax set-aside and spending money. Kept current by Livy.

Switch accountants. Not your whole life.

You don’t need immaculate books to start a conversation. Whether you have an accountant, accounting software or a spreadsheet, the first step is getting to know your business. You’re not left to figure it out yourself.

01

Start with where you are

Tell Livy about your business, how you keep the books and what’s due next. We agree what needs doing, including any catch-up work, and when Livy takes over.

02

Hand over the books

Connect your bank and inbox and give Livy the necessary authorisations. Livy helps bring your existing records together so you don’t have to organise everything yourself.

03

Know what happens next

Livy checks the opening position, flags any gaps and confirms your next deadlines. From then on, Livy keeps the books and prepares your filings. You get a plain-English summary to approve before anything is filed.

Livy connects directly to HMRC and Companies House, handles the digital filings and helps you get set up. We’ll explain which authorisations we need and help you get them in place.

A few things you might be wondering.

Choosing an accountant is a question of trust. Here’s how we work and what you can expect from Livy.

How is Livy different from a legacy high street accountant?

Livy brings together deep accounting knowledge and the care of a dedicated private accounting team. An accountant who knows your business in detail, looks ahead and takes care of the work without needing to be chased.

That means looking for the reliefs you’re entitled to, keeping your books current, gathering the paperwork and preparing your filings. When you have a question, the answer draws on your business’s records. When we need a decision, we bring you the context and a clear next step. You get the attention; we take care of the legwork.

We’re building the accountant you’d choose if exceptional service were the only consideration. Technology makes that level of care possible for a small business, at a straightforward monthly fee.

Is Livy another accounting app like QuickBooks, Xero or FreeAgent?

No. Livy is an accountancy service, delivered through an app. When you engage Livy, you appoint us to carry out the agreed accounting work and take responsibility for how we perform it.

Using QuickBooks, Xero or FreeAgent on their own gives you accounting software; that does not itself appoint an accountant to take care of your business. You’re still left with the work and stress of keeping the books, making accounting decisions and getting filings ready. With Livy, you have a world-class accountant who handles that work, asks when your input is needed and brings filings to you for approval.

What will I need to do day to day?

Once you’re set up, you can sit back and get on with your business. Livy takes care of the books, gathers the available receipts and keeps track of filing deadlines. No more evenings wrestling with accounting software. Or stressing about the next deadline.

Livy is your accountant. We’ll ping you when we need an answer or a missing document, and let you know when a filing needs your approval, with a clear summary of what you’re approving. Just respond when needed and tell us about changes in your business—we’ll handle the agreed accounting work in the background.

How long does it take to join or switch to Livy?

Once your place is available, you can get started in as little as a few minutes. Tell us about your business and begin connecting your accounts. Livy then works in the background to gather records, check your opening position and get your books ready.

Your books don’t need to be perfect before you join. Livy is built to make sense of incomplete records and messy accounts—we’ll help identify the gaps and agree any catch-up work, so you don’t have to untangle everything yourself.

The time needed to finish setting up depends on your records and authorisations. We’ll keep you updated, ask for anything missing and agree when Livy takes over in your engagement letter.

Can I switch from my current accountant or accounting software?

Yes. We start by understanding your records, current arrangements and upcoming deadlines. We’ll help bring your existing records into Livy and guide you through getting started, one step at a time.

We agree any catch-up work, the services included and the date Livy takes over before starting. If a deadline is close, tell us at the outset so we can confirm who will handle it. Joining early access does not end your existing engagement or appoint Livy as your accountant.

Am I still responsible for my tax submissions?

Yes. As with any accountant, appointing Livy does not transfer your statutory responsibilities. Company directors remain legally responsible for the company’s records and accounts. As a taxpayer, you remain responsible for your own tax, including providing accurate information, approving returns and paying what is due.

We have our own responsibility to you: to perform the work we agree to undertake with reasonable care and skill. We prepare your accounts and returns, explain what needs your attention and submit with your approval. We can be liable if we fail to meet that standard, subject to the law and the terms of your engagement. Your continuing duties do not remove ours.

We will have professional indemnity insurance in place before we begin client accountancy work. Your engagement letter will set out the scope of our work and any agreed liability cap. Insurance does not guarantee that every loss or penalty is covered.

See HMRC’s guidance on appointing an agent, GOV.UK’s guidance on directors’ responsibilities and our Terms of business.

Can I start using Livy now?

We’re opening first to UK limited companies and sole traders. Join early access and we’ll contact you when a place is available. We’ll confirm that Livy is a fit for your business and agree an engagement letter before any accountancy work begins.
